Pixie's Paper 'Plane Guide

This is Dixie Pixie's guide to making the fastest paper plane dart ever...

diagram showing first four paper folds

1. Take a rectangular piece of paper (A4 or letter size is good). First of all, fold it sharply down the middle (fold 1) and then unfold it flat again. You should still be able to see the crease.

2. Fold the top right corner down so that it touches the middle crease. The top right edge should now be along the line marked as fold 2.

3. Do the same with the top left corner across fold 3.

4. You should now have a triangle shape at the top of your sheet of paper. Take the top of the triangle and fold it down along the fold 4 line so that the tip touches the base of the triangle.

5. You should now have the shape shown to the right. Fold the top left corner along the fold 5 line so that it touches the centre crease of the paper.

6. Do the same for the top right corner by folding it along the line marked fold 6.

7. Now fold the paper back along the original fold 1 line (marked as fold 7 in the diagram to the left) so that the whole sheet is folded in half.

8. It's time for the wings - fold the paper back along folds 8 and 9.

You should now have a high-speed paper dart plane!

There are a few other things you can do to improve it:

  • Make sure the wings are angled UP and not down. Most people make the mistake of tilting the wings down but this will make it fly worse!
  • Experiment with bending the ends of the wings up or down. Bending then up slightly should make the plane fly slower but further. Bending them down should make it fly even faster.
  • Try changing the size of the wings to see what happens.
  • Try adding some weight to the front of the plane. You can do this by using paper clips, modelling dough or a plastic adhesive like Blu-Tack.
  • Colour the plane in!

Remember:never throw the plane at another person.

This plane will fly fast and has a sharp point at the front!
